KUALA LUMPUR (July 1, 2009) : A total RM3.1 billion has been refunded to 323,517 taxpayers as of June 28.
Hasmah Abdullah
Inland Revenue Board (IRB) CEO and Director General Datuk Hasmah Abdullah said this involves about 70% of taxpayers who had submitted their returns via the e-filing system, which makes the whole process of disbursing refunds faster as well as the process of collection more efficient.
There are currently 4.5 million active registered taxpayers in the country.
As of June 30 a total 1.5 million taxpayers had submitted their returns via the e-filing system compared to 1.1 million in 2008, almost 700,000 in 2007 and only 184,593 in 2006.

Hasmah said in months to come taxpayers will be able to access their accounts online and even check on the payments made by their employers into their accounts.
"This is currently in the developing and testing stages right now," she said.
Hasmah also said that the number of late submissions had also reduced considerably however she observed that the late submissions of Borang B (for businesses) were from tax agents who dropped off bulk submissions at the very last minute.
"I suggest that business owners convince their tax agents to do online submissions the next time around because this will not only be faster but will also allow business owners to check the details and status of their submissions online," she said.
